What is WhatsApp Business App Coexistence?

Coexistence lets a business register its existing WhatsApp Business App and phone number through Meta's official onboarding page — without losing the app. Once connected, you can keep chatting from the WhatsApp Business App on your phone and send messages programmatically through the WhatsApp Cloud API, all on the same number.

This means your front-line team can continue replying to customers directly in the familiar app, while your systems send templates, notifications, and automated flows through the API in the background. Messages stay mirrored between both, so everyone sees the full conversation.

When registration begins, Meta's official embedded page appears. Log in using the Facebook account that manages your business. This is handled entirely by Meta — your password is never shared with MobiWeb.

Feature Support After Coexistence

Most day-to-day features keep working, but some WhatsApp Business App features change once a number runs in Coexistence mode. Here's a clear summary:

Common Questions

Will I still be charged for messages?
Only messages you type and send manually from the WhatsApp Business App stay free. Any message sent through the API — including automated, template, and free-form replies — is charged. Importantly, when a customer messages you first and you reply within the 24-hour window, that user-initiated (service) conversation is not free — the BulkSMS platform charges a session fee for each 24-hour window. What are the requirements to use Coexistence?
Your WhatsApp Business App must be version 2.24.17 or later. You should also open the app at least once every 14 days to keep the connection active. Coexistence is available for most country codes, but a few — currently Nigeria and South Africa — are not supported (this is based on the country code of the app's phone number). Contact us to confirm your number qualifies.
Why can't I send free-form messages at first?
Before binding, you can only reply with approved message templates. Once your app is bound and a customer messages you first, a 24-hour service window opens and you can send free-form replies during that window. Note that this service window is chargeable — the BulkSMS platform applies a session fee per 24-hour window, so user-initiated conversations are not free.
Can I undo it later?
Yes. Coexistence can be dissociated at any time. Contact our support team and we'll detach the app from the channel, then you complete the dissociation in your WhatsApp Business App settings.
How do I re-sync my history and contacts?
To re-sync, you dissociate the app first and then re-associate it. Note that the initial sync must complete within 24 hours of a successful link — if it doesn't, the sync fails and you'll need to dissociate and link again.
Is there a sending speed limit?
The WhatsApp Business App and the platform share a fixed throughput. For high-volume sending — especially marketing — a dedicated WABA number is the better choice.
